What was meant to be a routine Ibom Air flight turned into an explosive scene of chaos when a female passenger lashed out at a flight attendant who asked her to switch off her mobile phone before take-off. The confrontation quickly escalated into a physical brawl that left the passenger’s clothes torn during the scuffle with the air hostess.
According to the Airport Police Command, the situation took a more dangerous turn when the passenger allegedly seized a fire extinguisher, attempting to use it to attack others onboard. Crew members and security operatives on ground intervened swiftly to prevent what could have been a serious in-flight safety incident.

Police confirmed that the passenger was arrested immediately and arraigned in court. While she was granted bail, she has been remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Facility pending the fulfillment of her bail conditions.
In its statement, the Airport Police Command warned that violent or unruly behavior towards airline staff would not be tolerated, stressing the importance of strict compliance with aviation safety regulations.
The shocking incident has fueled widespread debate over rising cases of “air rage” in Nigeria and the urgent need for stricter measures to safeguard crew members and passengers.
