We come across people who influence our lives in different ways. Fathers influence the personal and work lives of their children in profound ways. The lessons we learn from them while growing up can provide a powerful and stable foundation for success.
I haven’t directly taken after daddy’s career choice but I noticed that I have followed in the path. As much as I try to exclude myself from being like my parents, I’ve found that I have indirectly almost become exactly like my father.
I realized that of course there’s a huge gap between us and it was has made a huge difference in what we call our career choices. I don’t know of directly influencing, but I know we’re both interested in media and being (BTS) creatives. He’s a poet, I’m some sort of writer. He plays every musical instrument, I play some. He owns a radio station and I “just started a podcast.” There are so many instances.
Here are some ways my father influenced who I am;
Kindness
My father is someone who has always made sure he treated everyone with equal kindness. I have this attitude towards my working life because I am more interested in doing a job right than doing it fast. I listen and try to respond in a kind, understanding way. On the downside, I am impatient with unfairness and greed. I often support and fight for the underdog, which gets me in trouble at times.
Good sense of humor
I honestly don’t see it lol. But from my primary school, many of my friends who have met my dad have said he is very hilarious. I’ve carried this attitude to my work life because sometimes I like to try to make people loosen up by telling ‘dry’ jokes. I also learned that I can be funny without being vulgar.
So, even though I unconsciously followed my father’s footsteps, I have found that I don’t regret my career choices. Parents are the first role models for their children, and I’m lucky to have had the perfect one in my father.
Happy Father’s Day!!!
