Katsina State Governor, Aminu Bello Masari, has suggested some extreme measures for indigenes to adopt in the fight against terrorism and banditry across the region.
Without censoring words, the Governor urged the people of Katsina to equip themselves with weapons for defence against the mischief-makers.
Governor Masari declared this strategy in Jibia Town when he went to pay condolence to the families of ten people on Monday, killed by operatives of the Nigerian Customs Service, NCS, driving recklessly with an official vehicle.
On Tuesday, a press release issued to journalists in the state by the Director-General, Media, Labaran Malumfashi, contained the message.
Emphasizing that security is the business of every resident in Katsina State, Masari asked the indigenes not to succumb to intimidation or life-threatening moves from bandits, urging them to fight back.
He further charged the residents to avoid expressing meekness in such life or death situations, adding that such a gesture encourages the terrorists to strike without remorse.
Masari Causions Indigenes Against Enticements
Meanwhile, regarding the ten lives lost, the Governor assured the people that the government was perusing all the necessary legal steps to seek redress for the families of the deceased and those who sustained various degrees of injuries.
He, however, told families of the victims not to accept covert enticements from the customs service, noting that whatever they intend to offer as compensation should be done in the public eyes.
