ECOWAS Special Envoy to the Republic of Mali and Nigeria’s ex-president, Goodluck Jonathan has again briefed President Muhammadu Buhari on the political situation in the West African country.
President Buhari in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina thanked Jonathan for what he called displaying commendable stamina on the Mali issue.
The delegation at the Presidential Villa includes General Francis Behanzin, Commissioner for Political Affairs, Peace and Security and Dr Remi Ajibewa.
The ex-president last week held a meeting Ambassadors of US, France, Russia, Germany, European Union, among other stakeholders with the aim to broker peace in Mali.
Again, Jonathan Briefs President Buhari over Mali Crisis
It was gathered that the main opposition group, M5 has insisted on the resignation of President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita.
Meanwhile, the ECOWAS is not in support of the call for Boubacar’s resignation stating that the party can only use the democratic process to effect a change of power.
You will recall that President Buhari and four other ECOWAS leaders had visited Bamako, Mali, last month after which a virtual extraordinary summit of the sub-regional body was held.
