What began as a routine social media broadcast spiralled into a scene of chaos that has now drawn the full weight of law enforcement. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested popular TikToker Habeeb Hamzat, widely known as Peller, following a viral video that showed him driving recklessly before crashing his vehicle during a live broadcast.

The arrest, confirmed on Tuesday, followed widespread public outrage over the incident, which occurred on Sunday, December 14, 2025. In the video that circulated rapidly online, the influencer was seen engaging in dangerous driving behaviour that ended in a serious road crash, raising concerns about the safety of both the driver and other road users.
In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, the Lagos State Police Command said the arrest was necessary to prevent further harm and to reinforce public safety standards.
“The Lagos State Police Command has arrested and detained, for further investigation, Habeeb Hamzat aka ‘PELLER’, subsequent to the viral video that surfaced online on Sunday 14th December, 2025, in which he was seen driving recklessly, leading to a dangerous road crash and serious motor accident, while the incident was being live-streamed, thereby endangering his life and that of other road users,” the statement read in part.
Police authorities described the conduct as highly irresponsible, stressing that it could easily have resulted in loss of life. According to the command, the act went beyond mere negligence and posed a direct threat to unsuspecting motorists and pedestrians.
“His action constitutes a deliberate attempt to commit suicide and endangers the lives of other innocent people,” the statement added.
The police further disclosed that the case file has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation. Officials said the outcome of the inquiry would be made public and that the suspect would be charged before a court of competent jurisdiction in line with the law.
The incident has reignited debate around reckless online behaviour and the growing trend of dangerous stunts performed for live audiences, with authorities warning that social media popularity will not shield offenders from the consequences of actions that put lives at risk.
