Over 24 hours after the reported shooting and killings allegedly carried out by men and officers of the Nigerian Army at the Lekki Tollgate area of Lagos State, the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo has reacted to the incident via a series of tweets on Wednesday night.
In the tweet, Osinbajo said his heart goes out to all the victims of the Lekki shootings, the policemen and all other men and women who lost their lives in different parts of Lagos and other states across the country.
The Vice President, who also revealed that he spoke to some of the victims in hospital noted that though some losses are irreplaceable, however, vowed to get justice for everyone affected by the shootings.
Earlier, the Lagos State governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu had directed the immediate suspension of all State activities for 3-days except those connected with the governance of security in the State and the management of the current issue.
He also ordered the lowering of the flags in all government establishments for 3-days and the constitution of a 5-man Fact-Finding Committee into the Rules of Engagement ordered and adopted by the Nigerian Army to be headed by a retired military officer not less than the rank of a General.
According to the governor, there are no excuses for the unfortunate incident that took place on Tuesday, October 20 as he further apologised for every action and inaction. He, however, appealed to the youths and protesters in the state to give peace a chance given the several reported cases of arson, and destruction of property in Lagos State.
