The Minister of Information, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC and the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami have been dragged before the Federal High Court in Abuja.
Lawmakers under the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP caucus in the House of Representatives said the suit was filed to invalidate the 6th NBC broadcasting code.
In the suit, the lawmakers want the court to determine whether the Amended 6th Nigerian Broadcasting Code is not unconstitutional, null and void.
They also want the court to determine whether Alhaji Lai Mohammed has the statutory power to issue the Broadcasting Code.
Meanwhile, the lawmakers prayed the court to declare the Amended 6th Nigerian Broadcasting Code unconstitutional.
Another prayer tendered before the court is that it should declare the NBC as the sole authority statutorily empowered in Nigeria to enact and or issue Broadcasting Codes throughout the Federation.
The Nation reported that plaintiffs in the suit are Kingsley Chinda, Chukwuma Onyema, Ajibola Muraina, Mark Gbillah, Tyough Robert, Bulus Solomon, Rimamnde Shawulu Kwewum, Yusuf Ayo Tajudeen and Onyeman Chukwuma.
