A yet to be confirmed report has alleged that the federal government paid the sum of N800 million to secure the freedom of students and officials of the Government Science School, Kagara, Niger State.
According to Peoples Gazette’s report, the negotiation was brokered by National Security Adviser, NSA, Babagana Monguno and famous Islamic scholar Sheikh Gumi.
Earlier, Sheik Gumi had demanded blanket amnesty for bandits. He asked the Nigerian government to give repentant bandits amnesty to help tackle the country’s current security situation.
The scholar made the demand after visiting the camp of some bandits operating in Niger State as he further asked the Federal government to deal with any bandit who failed to disengage from banditry after getting the amnesty.
Kagara Abduction
Meanwhile, in what is considered a fresh attack, some suspected bandits have abducted about 17 women, including nursing mothers in Katsina State.
The suspected bandits reportedly abducted the women in the Sabuwa Local Government Area of Kaduna state while travelling for a wedding ceremony.
They were intercepted by the bandits in a road between Ungwar Rimi village and Garin Maigora shortly after the assailants whisked them away to an undisclosed location.
Meanwhile, one of the nursing mothers was spared with her baby by the captors due to her baby’s ill health.
