The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Professor Mahmood Yakubu has on Thursday held a meeting with Ondo State Council of Obas ahead of the October 10 governorship elections in the state.
According to a tweet by the commission, the meeting which was held at the cocoa conference hall in Akure, the Ondo State capital had in attendance traditional rulers in the state alongside the team of National Commissioners, Technical team and some directors.
Earlier on Thursday, Professor Mahmood held a meeting with some journalists in Ondo in continuation of a series of activities to ensure success in the Conduct of the forthcoming Governorship Elections in the state.
During the meeting, the INEC boss urged the Journalists to report any unwholesome activities during the elections to the commission via its social media platforms for prompt responses.
He described the media as an important partner in ensuring a successful electoral process adding that such partnership will increase public awareness and the flow of communication between the INEC and the media.
However, he assured the people of the state that the electoral body will be neutral and professional as a means of ensuring a credible, free and fair elections.
Meanwhile, the INEC Chairman has shown Journalists the new Smart Card Readers sent to the INEC office in Ondo State office to replace the over 5,000 smart cards that got burnt in the fire incident which occurred on September 10, 2020.
Earlier, Everyevery.ng has reported that the electoral body ordered that about 6,000 smart card readers in its office in Oyo state be moved to Ondo state in replacement of the burnt card readers (Read more here).
