Chidimma Adetshina, the first runner-up at the recent Miss Universe competition, has announced her decision to retire from pageantry, citing personal reasons and the need to focus on her well-being and education.
Adetshina, who was also crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania, shared her experience during an interview with Silverbird TV, describing her journey in the world of beauty pageants as challenging and emotionally taxing.
“Finishing in the top 2 [at the Miss Universe competition] is still a shocker for me… Honestly, I am done. Pageantry was a real traumatic experience for me,” she revealed, expressing how the pressures of the competition affected her.
Reflecting on the challenges she faced, she added, “People still don’t understand how I felt. There were times when I almost quit during the Miss Universe contest. I’m really done with pageantry. I want to focus on myself and establish who I am. And forward my education as well.”
Adetshina, originally from Nigeria, plans to relocate to her home country after years in South Africa. Her decision follows her withdrawal from the Miss South Africa pageant, a move prompted by public scrutiny over her nationality. This ultimately led her to represent Nigeria, a choice that resulted in her winning the Miss Nigeria title and later achieving international recognition at Miss Universe.
The announcement marks the end of an impressive chapter in Adetshina’s career, leaving her admirers to celebrate her accomplishments and look forward to her next endeavors.
