The Management of the University of Abuja, UNIABUJA, has slammed the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB, over an allegation recently levelled against the Tertiary institution.
The University denied the allegation that it engaged in illegal admissions, adding that it has nothing to hide as far as its admission exercise is concerned.
According to the Head, information and University Relations, Dr Habib Yakoob, UNIABUJA noted that it was not out of place to conduct admissions without JAMB’s input.
UNIABUJA Slams JAMB, noting that the Universities Miscellaneous Provisions states that the Senate shall have powers in all academic matters, including the organization and control, teaching and research, admission of students.
Yakoob further explained that the Provisions means that the University, not any external body, is guaranteed the power to admit students.
UNIABUJA Slams JAMB
The UNIABUJA spokesman opined that the University has one of the best and most transparent admission systems in the country.
According to Yakoob, candidates stand a chance to getting admission if they scored 180 and above, met the University’s cut-off points and some other stringent criteria set by JAMB.
However, UNIABUJA assured the examination body, candidates and relevant stakeholders in the Nigerian educational project that the Tertiary institution is engaged in honest, transparent and open admissions in all its various programmes.
