Hydroxychloroquine is not suitable for treating coronavirus. The malaria drug, unlike popular opinion, has not helped so far in relieving the symptoms of patients who tested positive to coronavirus. Although President Trump endorsed hydroxychloroquine as one of the drugs for treating coronavirus, there has been no positive effect of its use of the patients.

According to the research, hydroxychloroquine was used on 368 male veterans who tested positive to coronavirus. 28% of them died despite also receiving other medically approved medications.

About 22% of those who received hydroxychloroquine and azithromycin were also recorded dead. Although this might be linked to their age group, the extent of the effect is not yet known.
At the moment, this report has been sent to the New England Journal of Medicine but is yet to be reviewed by other scientists.
