Despite massive condemnations of the All Progressives Congress, APC-led government across various parts of the nation, the party still managed to pull a victory in up to thirty-one Local Government Areas, LGAs out of thirty-four in the just concluded LGA elections that were held in Katsina State.
The win was confirmed by the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission, KSIEC, which declared the victory for APC in the April 11 local government councils election.
The Secretary of the commission, Lawal Alhassan Faskari, who revealed the results at the office of the commission, said the APC has won all the chairmanship and councillorship positions in the 31 LGAs.
He informed the public that results from two LGAs – Daura and Funtua – were being awaited as at the time of the announcement, that of Dutsinma, the home LGA of the former governor Shema, had been canceled due to irregularities.
Faskari admitted that the election was without hindrance and was also smooth as the commission wishes to inform the general public that the exercise was generally peaceful and keenly contested by 12 registered political parties, except for one LGA where the exercise was characterized by many irregularities and election crisis which forced the commission to evoke section 60 of the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission Law (2002) of Katsina State, to stop the process.
