According to him, it is an illegal law designed to allow selected people to keep feeding on the labour of the masses. Hope Uzodimma also mentioned that the law is against the public service pension provisions where only those who have served for a minimum of 10 years are entitled to the pension. Adding those governors are allowed to spend only a maximum of 8 years in office, therefore, they are not entitled to a pension.

Governor Hope Uzodimma raised awareness regarding the long-run effect of paying such huge sums to ex-governors. He said that in 15 years or more, Imo state will have more than 20 governors and speakers to pay. He emphasised that this is not right for a growing state with lots of responsibilities and limited resources. He added that governors and speakers receive enormous amounts as severance allowance and as such are not entitled to pension anymore.
Hope Uzodimma made it known that he would have benefitted from this law but deemed it fit to have it repealed as it is illegal, criminal and against humanity.
