A Hollywood actor, Oscar nominee and one of the actors in the movie Lord of the rings, Ian Holm, has died at age eighty-eight.
According to a statement by his agency, before his death, Holm suffered from a Parkinson’s related illness and later passed away in the early hours of Friday, June 19.
The agency confirmed that the actor died peacefully in hospital in the presence of some members of his family.
Before his death, he was nominated for an Oscar for his role in the movie Chariots of Fire as he also appeared in numerous top international films including the Alien, The Madness of King George, The Aviator among others.

Reacting to the actor’s death, US actress Mia Farrow described him as a brilliant actor and one of the giants of the theatre.
In a tweet, British actor Eddie Izzard mourned Holm whom he described as a wonderful actor noting that he did a great work before his demise.
Meanwhile, The National Theatre in London has described the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards nominee as an extraordinary actor.
