Gunmen yesterday killed one traveler and abducted several others near Rijana town along the Kaduna-Abuja Highway.
A resident of Rijana, Ahmed Iliyasu, told newsmen that the incident occurred around 8:00am at Gadar Malam Mamman, a few kilometers to Rijana community.
He said the gunmen blocked the road before carrying out the operation. He said one traveler was shot dead and others abducted.
One of the escapees, Arch. Mudassur Ladan, said he was driving to Abuja when the assailants appeared from the bush and started shooting sporadically.
When contacted, the spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, Mohammed Jalige, asked for time to verify the incident from the area command, but he could not do so at the time of putting this report together.
