The 44-year-old was recently unveiled as the running mate for the gubernatorial candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Lagos state, joining the list of celebrities that have ventured into politics.
On Tuesday, Funke Akindele took to her Instagram page to express her passion for the change needed by becoming the Deputy Governor of Lagos state.
In the video shared, the mother of two stated that the decision was a sacrifice she had to make to “rescue” the people of Lagos State.
“I am not unaware of the cost of this assignment on my vibrant career, which I must now necessarily put on hold.
“It’s a huge personal sacrifice. My resolve is that no sacrifice is too huge for the actualisation of the urgent mission to rescue our people and our dear state,” she stated.
Funke Akindele, an indigene Ikorodu in Lagos State, added that she saw an opportunity to liberate and improve the wellbeing of the people, particularly the deprived youth, women and the girl child in the state.

The actress was confirmed as Olajide Adediran’s (Jandor) running mate a week after her husband, Abdulrasheed Bello (JJC), announced their separation.
