The federal government has expressed commitment to counter fake News.
Sunday Dare, the Minister of Youths and Sports revealed this while speaking on Channels Television.
He noted that the government would ensure that fake news is controlled within the legal framework.
The Minister said other countries had taken measures to exercise restraint over the cyberspace.
He disclosed that the government had the option of shutting down the social media space in Nigeria during the EndSARS protests but chose not to tread the path.
According to him, the National Assembly will do justice to the proposed regulation of the social media to guard against the spread of fake news.
He described the issue of fake news as worrisome for the government.
Dare stressed that the EndSARS protests brought home the dangers of fake news.
Earlier, the Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin, had described the abuse of cyberspace as a platform aiding activities of terrorists in the country.
Also, the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed had raised the alarm that social media was fuelling the crisis in Nigeria.
