The High Court of the Federal Capital Territory has ordered a man identified as Innocent Destiny to wash Mpape Park Toilet in Abuja for 60 days as punishment for attempting to defraud clients on WeChat, a messaging platform.
Mr Innocent Destiny disguises himself as a female using the fake name Kim Webber and inducing male users of the platform to defraud them.
The act is a violation of section 322 of the penal code. The Counsel to EFCC, who argued the case, urged the court to convict and sentence the suspect, Destiny, under the terms of the plea bargain, which stated that he would pay a fine of N100,000 or spend a month in prison.
However, Counsel to the suspect, Holy Nuhu, pleaded with the court to temper justice with mercy, considering that the defendant was young and a first-time offender with no criminal record.
The suspect was, however, given non-custodial sentencing of washing public toilets.
