Abuja Airport officials under investigation by FAAN for asking passengers for COVID-19 clearance bribe.
The Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has released a statement saying that it has commenced an investigation on the allegations levelled against the officials of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, saying that some of them were collecting bribe from passengers on evacuation flights.
There were allegations that some of the airport officials demand bribe from returnees for COVID-19 clearance and to help them evade the COVID-19 test and isolation.
To help contain the novel virus, the Presidential Taskforce for COVID-19 had instructed that all returnees must go through a compulsory COVID-19 test and go into a 14-day isolation process to make sure that they were free of the virus.
Henrietta Yakubu, the General Manager, Corporate Affairs released a statement on behalf of FAAN saying,
”The recent allegation that some airport officials in Abuja were collecting money from returning passengers on evacuation flights is already being investigated by all agencies at the airport.”
FAAN also advised passengers to desist from giving any airport official money for COVID-19 clearance and should endeavour to report any official who requests a bribe for the COVID-19 screening.
