UNIVERSITY IN SOUTH EAST
Enugu State Governor, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi lays the foundation of first Education University in Southeast. This would be the first of its kind in the geo-political zone. There is Tai Solarin University of Education in the Southwest and Federal College of Education, Katsina in the Northern part. The administrative building of the University has been laid by the state governor. The institution named Enugu State University of Education is located in Ihe, Awgu Local Government Area of the state.
It was a case of jubilation and excitement for the indigenes especially the people of Awgu. The University would be a degree-awarding institution in the area of Education. It will serve as a training ground for teachers of primary, secondary and tertiary institutions. The establishment of the new institution was recently mapped out by the state governor. The contract for the construction of the administrative building was awarded only last week by the State Executive Council.
Governor Ugwuanyi expressed delight and fulfillment during the ceremony. He stated that te quest for the establishment of the University in consonance with his administration’s commitment to providing and promoting better access to higher education. It is also a way of stimulating knowledge, productivity and industry among the teeming youths in Enugu State.
A sum of #200 million was said to have been released for the commencement of preliminary construction works on the site. The governor stressed that the proposed University will bring about a significant and positive transformation of the socio-economic features of the entire Awgu Local Government Area and its environs. The governor also explained the promptness in the construction of an administrative building. He said it is to stimulate the rapid development of the institution. It is also to prepare it for full commencement of academic activities in no distant time.
