Nigerian youths have not been seen as united as it is witnessed in the recent #ENDSARS campaign which has drawn the attention of the whole world.
The impact of Nigerian celebrities to put an end to the incessant attacks on Nigerian youths by the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) cannot be overlooked. We’ve had more voice with their participation in making Nigeria a better place for the future generation.
The power of social media also cannot be overlooked as it has been a platform to get the Nigerian youths to move together in one voice and unity.
A Call To Effect Change By Nigerian Youths
Although few artists have used their voices to speak about bad governance and other ills of the society through their music and social media, others have been silent and have been said that they don’t do enough.
Many times Nigerian youths have called out the celebrities for not speaking up against the government because they are used during elections. Some have been labelled hypocrites for taking issues like the ‘Black Lives Matter’ in heart rather than the happenings in the country.
This is show that celebrities do have a say as they are being looked up to as role model by young Nigerians even though the leaders have really failed the people.
The #ENDSARS campaign has now shown that we have to be our brother’s keeper and stick together to ensure that our voices are heard and effect positive change in our nation.
Celebrities As Our Megaphone To Speak Up
Nigerian music artists, actors, OAPs, social media influencers, activists, and other well known faces have done their best in the ongoing protest to put an end to SARS brutality and extortion in the country which has seen many lives lost.
One of the popular voices has been Afrobeat singer, Wizkid, who engaged the President’s tweet which got reactions from the Presidency. This was after a young Nigerian was killed by SARS in Ughelli, Delta State without a response from the government.
Nigerian youths have since taken the protest from social media platforms to the street with several celebrities taking the lead even though few succumbed to pressure at first.
The likes of Falz, Rudeboy,Davido, Runtown, Wizkid, Tiwa Savage, Don Jazzy, Adekunle Gold, Aisha Yesufu, Ogbeni Dipo, Mike Edwards, Rinu, Tacha, Mr Macaroni, and so on have made sure our voices are being heard and the leaders get to listen this time as they hit the street with other Nigerian youths.
Nigerian youths, this time have put religion, ethnicity, and other differences aside to speak with one voice and have drawn the attention of the whole world. This is bringing results even though lives are being lost to the cruelty of the ‘devils in uniform

‘.
As the Nigerian youths press on to get what they needed from the government (Police reform and other things), this recent protest has shown that in unity, we have a voice and as Nigerian music superstar, Wizkid, has stated ‘‘Don’t let them tell you that we don’t have a voice, we do and have to speak up for ourselves”, we can boldly fight for our future generation.
R.I.P to all the lives lost in the recent protest, they’ll never be forgotten.
