Comrade Joseph Evah has revealed enough reason to suspend the principal of Dowen College, Lagos, for the death of 12-year-old Sylvester Oromoni.
Evah, the coordinator of Ijaw Monitoring Group (IMG), has criticised the school management’s failure to suspend the college principal.
He stated that it is dangerous and unacceptable that the principal was not suspended before the commencement of an investigation by the Police.
Nigerians Demand Apology From Dowen College
In a statement by the human rights activist, he tagged the statement released by the school about the 12-year-old boy being injured while playing football as enough reason to suspend the principal because the public would not accept such a lame excuse.
Comrade Evah said, “The public will suspect foul play in this investigation if the principal remains as the head of the school without suspension by the school owner.”
He added that things like this could not happen in a saner society, and Nigerians will in every way demand justice.
Evah, an educationist, stated that with his years of experience, some schools tend to want a favour from parents, thereby creating fake relationships.
He added that they cover up crimes committed by children of such parents just for loyalty, which worsens their behaviour in society.
He proceeded, saying, “In this case, we thank the Lagos state government for its intervention by asking the Police to investigate, but the credibility of the investigation demands the school owners suspend the principal in order not to interfere with the investigation.”
Evah noted that the Police need some evidence and exhibits in the school that should not be tampered with within their investigation; the principal having access to the facility puts it at risk.
He added that “Nigerians demand a public apology from owners of Dowen College for keeping quiet for over a week in a matter that has painted school owners as inhuman and heartless.”
“We pray God to comfort you because the unimaginable pain will be unbearable to carry. The pain in your heart is too much to bear, and the whole world mourns with your family. Please be consoled that the world shares your pain because they love your special son,” he concluded.
