Popular Instagram celebrity Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, has finally received a jail sentence for cyber fraud.
The 40-year-old sentencing was initially scheduled for September 19 but was delayed till November 3 by Judge Otis Wright.
Before his final sentence, Hushpuppi wrote a personal letter to the court, briefing them on his source of wealth, his criminal adventure and his regrets while apologizing to his family members for the shame he has caused them.
The Instagram celebrity was finally sentenced to 11 years in jail by the United States Central District Court in California but will spend nine years after already spent two years since his arrest in Dubai.
The US government urged the District Court to sentence him to 135 months in jail as he was said to be one of the best cleaners in prison since his extradition in 2021.
The former Instagram sensation was arrested in his live-in hotel in Dubai in June 2020 by the International Police (Interpol) and then transferred to the United States.
Hushpuppi, who pleaded guilty to money laundering, was accused of duping people across different continents to the tune of millions of dollars.
