It’s scary how crude oil thieves in the Niger Delta Region put their lives on the line to illegally excavate and tap the resources for their unassented dealings.
In an interview on Arise TV, one of their investigative correspondents made time out to explore the horrors of the illegal oil bunkering artisans.
While chatting with the oil thieves in their secret hideout, the investigative reporter asked the artisanal oil miners about the possible consequences of their actions.
Responding, one of the masked oil thieves (name withheld) revealed that they are ready to give their lives for the hustle.
He further narrated how the region lasks job opportunities for graduates, adding that up until now, the State Government are yet to resolve pension issues with their retired workers.
He also noted that most government and private sector workers in the state do not get their salaries for months, yet, they continue in the miserable lifestyle of surviving with peanuts.
Another member of the illegal bunkering group stated that they all risk their lives in the forests, sourcing the crude oil for refining and sale to their regular customers.
At the scene of the illegal bunkering, hefty men were spotted with heavy ammunitions and they were moving around to survey the area to see whether there are security personnel trespassing their business terrain.
