The Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, has given updates on the N6.25 billion allegedly expended on COVID-19 palliatives by the Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
According to Senator Akinyelure, NDDC officials claimed that the commission gave N100million to each of the nine oil-producing states’ governors as palliatives.
Meanwhile, the Lawmaker noted that the Senate might summon the governors, who allegedly collected the money from the NDDC.
He disclosed that the sole administrator’s representatives came to his office, and verbally explained how the commission spent the fund meant for COVID-19 palliatives.

Senator Akinyelure further stated that the Sole Administrator of the NDDC must appear before the committee or risk an arrest warrant.
However, he opined that the petition over the amount spent on COVID-19 palliatives by the NDDC would not be swept under the carpet.
Akinyelure added that the committee invites the governors to come and account for the COVID-19 palliative fund, noting that none of the 27 Senators from the Niger Delta region knows about the palliative.
