The government and its officials in Kogi state are refusing the testing of coronavirus in the state. Doctors who work in public hospitals in Kogi state have spoken up saying that the government is rejecting their request for coronavirus tests for some patients in the state.
According to the association of resident doctors in the state, the government is frustrating their efforts to test the people with symptoms in the hospitals hence putting the health workers at great risk. In a statement released by the President of the Association of Resident Doctors, FMC Lokoja, Agwu Nnanna, he appealed to the Ministry of Health and the PTF on COVID-19 to reach out to relevant stakeholders in the state so as to remedy the situation.

Agwu Nnanna mentioned that there is great fear amongst the workers at FMC Lokoja as they have had patients who presented with symptoms of the coronavirus but they were not able to get tested. He said the report by NCDC that only one test has been conducted in Kogi state is insufficient as they have requested for more tests since the beginning of the pandemic in Nigeria. According to him, they are not the state with the highest risk especially for the health workers. He also pointed out that they still lack PPE’s to work with up till this time.
