You can say Kano state government is not managing the Coronavirus epidemics well but I looked at the issue and came to the conclusion that rather it is the Federal Government that has abandoned Kano in its moments of need.
Epidemics are by law managed by NCDC, a federal government outfit. It is a global practice anywhere. So far NCDC has failed to test people in Kano for the Covid-19 disease.
The state had established its isolation centers but there are only 17 known patients in the center because of inadequate testing.
The government had done what it could to impose lockdown but lacked the federal force to enforce the lockdown because both police and military are owned by federal government. And Kano people are notorious for lawlessness.
The state government requested for money to give people as palliative but so far no response from Federal Government.
As far as I know the Federal Government is not assisting Kano state. If it were election time, the president would have been in the state saying how he loves Kano and making all manner of promises. But at this critical time he is nowhere near Kano.
The governor is on his own and it is sad seeing people heaping blames on him, expecting more from a man in a matter that he can do better with some measure of federal assistance.
