A Nigerian Cleric and the Senior Pastor of Daystar Christian Centre, Pastor Sam Adeyemi has penned a message to President Muhammadu Buhari, members of the Federal Executive Council, members of the National Assembly, Nigerian Governors, and all parents as regards the clamor that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS should be scrapped.
In a tweet on Tuesday, the Cleric noted that many people who are at the helms of affairs in Nigeria had the opportunity to protest about 27 years ago after the annulment of a free and fair election, noting that the heroic acts of the protesters birthed the current democratic dispensation to a large extent.
According to Adeyemi, the young ones are only continuing the journey, therefore totally deplorable that the police would spray water, throw teargas, and shoot at peaceful protesters.
However, he urged President Buhari to order the police to immediately stop the attack on citizens protesting peacefully adding that the police should rather protect them.
The cleric, who opined that the old templates for shutting down dissent will not work anymore. Adeyemi said only true leadership that serves the people will work at a time like this adding that feeling superior to citizens will lead to leadership failure.
He further described the Nigeria Police Force as a mini Nigeria noting that most of the allocation of funds doesn’t trickle down, hence the reason why some officers earn wages that are not livable and are compelled to extort money from citizens.
He canvassed for a change in the way police officers and most Nigerians earn money and meet basic needs as he also urged the President to listen directly to young Nigerians by making firm decisions.
