Nigerian writer Chimamanda Adichie has shared one of her regrets with BBNaija reality TV show host Ebuka Obi- Uchendu.
In a recent interview with Ebuka, she was asked a question that made her throw a bombshell that met so many Nigerians in the heart region.
Ebuka asked her if she is proud to be a Nigerian, and her response went as far as digging the fact that she currently regretted the decision she took years back.
She said, “if is say yes, it will be a lie, and if I say no, it will be a lie”. While she struggled to answer, she further opened up to say that “Nigeria deeply frustrates her”.
Chimamanda stressed that though she is a Nigerian and carries no other country’s passport apart from Nigeria’s, she regrets turning down her opportunity to become an American citizen.
“I realised years ago that I don’t have to love Nigeria. I was thinking I had to be an authentic Nigerian; Nigerians are going through visa insults, me too I am supposed to go through it.”
She how every reiterated that though Nigeria frustrates her and she is disappointed in the country, her mind is still here because it belongs to her.
