After reports of church losing over 200 missionaries, CDD debunks rumour
The Centre for Democracy and Development has come out to debunk the rumours that popular nigerian church, Evangelical Church Winning All (ECWA)
Earlier this week, the reports that the church lost over 200 of its support missionaries made the news but CDD has fact-checked that piece of information saying that it was false and advices the Nigerian citizenry to refrains from spreading fake news.
According to them, they had direct sources from the said church confirm that they didn’t lose that number of their congregation to coronavirus.
They believe that newsmen and bloggers misconstrued the speech given by the acting assistant secretary-general of the church, Reverend Samuel Atu who represented the President of the church, Rev. Dr Stephen Panya Baba at the burial of one of their church members.
In their post CDD said that the Reverend only mentioned that the virus had affected over 200 of their missionaries and not killed.
