Nigerian musician, Damini Ogulu Ebunoluwa, aka Burnaboy has won his second consecutive ‘Best International Act’ award at the BET awards.
The Nigerian won the same category at the 2019 edition after the success of his ‘African Giant‘ album. He was also nominated for the prestigious Grammy awards only to lose to the legendary performer, Angelique Kidjo of Benin Republic.
Burnaboy hasn’t slowed down since then has proved to be an ‘African giant‘ indeed. He is the most streamed African artist in several music platforms and has dropped hits after hits.
Burnaboy Wins 2nd BET Awards
Burnaboy was on hand to receive his 2nd BET awards this time even though the award was done virtually due to the coronavirus pandemic. The last time the ‘Ye‘ crooner won it, her mum, Bose Ogulu stepped up to pick the award with a charming speech.
Oluwaburna as he’s fondly called, beat five other artists; Stormzy (UK), Dave (UK), Sho Madjozi (South Africa), Innoss’B (DR Congo), Ninho (France), and Pr. Noirs (France ) to the Best International Act award this time.
The 2020 award was presented by English actress and model, Naomi Campbell. The actress was so proud of Africa and screamed ‘Afrobeat to the world’ as Burnaboy picks the award again.
In his congratulatory speech, Burnaboy said ‘‘Thank you very much BET, the second time, I appreciate. I like to use this opportunity to say that sometime around 1835, there was a mission to turn Africa into a dominated nation. Now is the time to overturn and go back to the royalty that we were.”
He continued with the message that has been spread by black people in recent time ‘‘For black lives to matter, Africa must matter. Thank you very much, I appreciate it”
We just have to say a big congratulation to Burnaboy for this massive win.
