Twitter suspension will be lifted if the social network company meets the required conditions. President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, has said.
“Following the extensive engagements, the issues are being addressed, and I have directed that the suspension be lifted but only if the conditions are met to allow our citizens continue the use of the platform for business and positive engagements.’’
Recall that the President constituted a Presidential Committee, plus a Technical Team to relate with the management of the microblogging platform to explore the possibility of resolving the issue that led to its suspension.
Buhari disclosed this information during a pre-recorded broadcast to mark Nigeria’s 61st Independence Anniversary today in Abuja.
He noted that the Presidential Committee and the Technical Team had been in talks with Twitter Inc. to resolve some of the proposed conditions that would guarantee the reactivation of the platform.

Buhari said that the issues to be resolved include National Security and Cohesion; Registration, Physical Presence and Representation; Fair Taxation; Dispute Resolution; and Local Content.
The Nigerian President reflected on why the platform was cut out from any further operations in the country on June 5, adding that the government acted to have the opportunity to tackle some of the highhandedness of the social network company.
