In what might, or might not, shape up to be a severe national bribery scandal, two prominent Nigerians, both still in active public service, have been accused of an illegal exchange, to the tune of $5 million.
Backstory behind bribery scandal
Godswill Akpabio, the Minister of Niger Delta Affairs, has reacted to reports of him paying a $5 million bribe to the Federation’s Attorney General, Abubakar Malami.
Reports had it that Akpabio allegedly bribed Malami, the Minister of Justice with $5 million to secure a Sole Administrator’s appointment for the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
But, Malami had denied the report, saying those behind the information should provide evidence to back up their claim.
Reacting, Akpabio also described the reports as false.

A statement by Akpabio’s Chief Press Secretary, Anietie Ekong, insisted that the report was the handiwork of mischief-makers and those seeking to discredit his administration and tarnish his image.
The statement described the allegations as “a figment of the imagination of the author of the fake news.”
Whether or not these allegations will hold any water would depend on if those behind the claims can come forward with any form of evidence to back them up and perhaps propel this bribery scandal further.
