Boko Haram and Residents of Auno
Following assurance of adequate security by Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, residents of Auno Town in Konduga Local Government Area of the state are trooping back home, while commercial drivers plying the Maiduguri-Damaturu Road, are giving them free ride.
After insurgent attack that led to many deaths and destruction of properties., residents of Auno which is few kilometres from Maiduguri, deserted the town since February.
It was reported by a driver, Bukar Gwange, that the gesture was part of the drivers’ support to the returnees as they wish to see the once bubbling town bounce back to life.
He said that Auno is a place they used to get passengers and loads to and fro Maiduguri but when the sad incident happened in February, they were sad as it affected many of their colleagues and passengers.
Another driver, Ali Mohammed, stated that they always picked the returnees at Njimtilo area, in the outskirts of Maiduguri.
It was stated by another driver, Gwange, that now, the residents are returning home, and they feel the best they can do is to give them free ride.
He said that after dropping the returnees in Auno, the drivers used the opportunity to pick passengers who are going back to Maiduguri from Ngamdu and Beneshiek.
According to Mohammed, that was the way that, they get little money to ease the hardship caused by the lockdown due to the existing ban on interstate travels.
