James Olanrewaju, aka Baba Ijesha, who has been a subject of public scrutiny and disgrace after accusations of molestation and defilement were levelled against him, will be charged to court, and the potential length of his sentence has been revealed.
A statement was released by the Lagos State Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Justice Moyosore Onigbanjo. The statement said that the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) issued legal advice that a prima fasie case has been disclosed against James Olanrewaju.
Baba Ijesha could be jailed for life
The recommendation was that Olanrewaju be tried under the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
Baba Ijesha is set to be tried for indecent treatment of a child, punishable by a seven-year jail term; defilement of a child, punishable by life imprisonment; sexual assault by penetration, punishable by life imprisonment; attempted sexual assault by penetration, punishable by 14 years in prison; and sexual assault, punishable by 3 years in prison.
