Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar has reacted to the Federal Government’s decision to cancel the 2020 WAEC Examination.
Atiku opined that the cancellation would put Nigeria at more risk adding that thousands of Nigerians would breach social distancing rules to cross over to neighbouring West African nations to write their WASSCE, rather than miss a year.
According to him, Nigeria lags behind other African nations in crucial indices, like school enrolment, pass rates, and out of school children.
He said the cancellation will further create chaos in the public education system and exacerbate an already bad situation.
However, he reminded President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration to take into account that the lives they are trying to save will be further put at risk if the policy is not reversed.
Atiku Advises FG On 2020 WAEC
In a tweet on his Twitter handle, Atiku stated that Nigeria could mobilise all available public and private infrastructures, including primary schools, stadia, and cinemas, for the examinations.
He further stated that the Federal Government can also prevail on WAEC to have staggered examinations with a different set of questions for each shift.
Atiku emphasised that adopting the style would allow the examination body in Nigeria to implement social distancing and achieve the goal of carrying out the examinations.
