It would never cease to amaze how much bad blood runs in the music industry. The Nigerian scene isn’t excluded. This explains why there is a lawsuit involving Asa and Joeboy.
A niche in the economy that should be concerned about building its members seems to always be faulted for its members pulling down themselves. After being sued by Tempoe because of IDG, Asa seems to be taking her revenge with her latest move.
Suing Joeboy appears to be her comeback in the scheme of things. After bringing her music down because Tempoe got an injunction and litigations ended in his favour, Asa has sued Joeboy over ‘Contour’. According to her, she has a similar composition to that song.
From her claims, she was more than present during the creation of the beat, she was a part of that creation and Tempoe might as well be referred to as just a session attendee during the making of the beats.
Contour was produced by Tempoe and it is all too shady to not be viewed from the lens of revenge. The lineup for crude enforcement of intellectual property laws seems to be unfair in this case, especially when what she is demanding is put into consideration.
Asa has demanded that she gets 60% of royalties, 300M, a public apology tendered to her and the song be taken down on all DSPs. This seems like a ripoff of Joeboy. Different questions have been put into consideration, of which the most important is, “was Joeboy aware of the co_creation Asa is claiming?”
If Joeboy was ignorant, then that absolves him of the accusation. The trajectory of this case would be revealed better when Asa is able to provide proof that she was part of the beat’s production.
