Men suspected to be armed robbers attack police station in Benin, Edo state.
The station attacked was a divisional police headquarters at Igieben Edo state and made away with several arms.
It was reported that the attack occurred at about 8 pm on Monday. The robbers threw type of local dynamite into the station and launched their attack on the police officers.
Immediately they gained access into the station, they went straight for the armoury and made away with some arms.
Following this attack, there was reportedly a protest in the community calling for an investigation on the explosion and attack as there were reports that two officers died.
Chidi Nwabuzor, the Edo state Police Public Relations Officer confirmed the armed robbers attack police station and that no officer died in the attack.
However, one of the assailants was shot while there was an exchange of fire between the officers and the robbers.
Nwabuzor said,
“On November 9, 2020, around 7.30 pm, hoodlums suspected to be armed robbers invaded the police station at Igueben.
Immediately, police personnel were mobilised to repel them.
During the gun duel, one of the suspected armed robbers was shot dead.
Two policemen were wounded and they were taken to the hospital.
One motorcycle, suspected to belong to the robbers, was confiscated by the police. No policeman was killed in the attack.”
