The Amnesty International Nigeria has on Wednesday posed some questions to the Nigerian authorities as it also warned the government not to cover up the Lekki Toll Gate massacre adding that it has released a new timeline investigating the atrocity one week later.
According to the Organisation, the Nigerian authorities still have many questions to answer as regards who ordered the use of lethal force on peaceful protesters, the rationale behind the dismantling of the CCTV cameras on the scene and the person who ordered that the electricity should be turned off minutes before the military opened fire on protesters.
The Organization stated that many people are still missing since the day of the incident, noting that credible evidence shows that the military prevented ambulances from reaching the severely injured in the aftermath.
Amnesty International opined that the initial denials of the involvement of soldiers in the shooting were followed by the shameful denial of the loss of lives as a result of the military’s attack against the protesters.
The Organization said an investigation is ongoing over the shooting and the reported removal of bodies of those killed by the military in an attempt to remove evidence.
