The Minister of Education in Nigeria, Adamu Adamu, has revealed that the Federal Government have settled all demands of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) except one.
The minister made this known on Thursday, during the 47th session of the State House Ministerial Media Briefing at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
Adamu revealed that ASUU wants the federal government to pay the backlog of salaries witheld during the ongoing strike, a move rejected by the President.
The minister further revealed that the ‘no-work-no-pay’ policy is the only hindrance in the FG-ASUU negotiations.
Adamu said, “All contentious issues between the government and ASUU had been settled except the quest for members’ salaries for the period of the strike to be paid, a demand that Buhari has flatly rejected.”
ASUU resumed a warning strike on February 14, 2022, and has since extended it to date since they have been unable to reach an agreement with the government.
