The Abia State government is in mourning after it was reported that the Abia State Commissioner for Environment, Dr Solomon Ogunji is Dead.
Chief John Okiyi-Kalu who is the state’s Commissioner for Information made this known in a statement he released in the state capital Umuahia on Sunday 24 May.
Chief Okiyi-Kalu said in his statement that the commissioner died at the state’s university teaching hospital in Aba after a brief illness relating to high blood pressure.
He also said that the Abia state governor, Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu had called the family of the late Dr Solomon Ogunji to offer his condolences after receiving the news of the demise on Saturday, praying that the family would have the strength to bear the loss of their father.
Dr Solomon Ogunji was according to reports, an aspirant in the general elections of 2019 to become the senatorial representative of Abia South, running under the PDP. He was also once appointed as the special adviser to Governor Ikpeazu on urban renewal in 2015 before serving as the state’s commissioner for environment. He was before his death, a member of the Abia State Inter-Ministerial committee on COVID-19.
