The first half of 2019 has been a really slow one for the Nigerian music scene pertaining to release hits. There have been a few fire songs for the past 5 months and fans were starting to make their dissatisfaction known online.
The first half is wrapping up and the second is just 2 weeks away. And it seems like some of Naija’s finest artists have been waiting for this strategic time to strike. This weekend has been a weekend of so many musical gifts. So much so that we’ll be literally dancing into the second half of 2019. More heat for our parties.
Johnny Drille gives a fresh single titled “Papa”. It is not his usual love song. It is a song that gives us the folk music feeling. Reminisce drops “Jensimi” in which he features Niniola.
Adekunle Gold decides to mix things up with a remix of his much loved song, “Before You Wake Up”. He features one of Tanzania’s biggest stars, Vanessa Mdee.
Teni the Entertainer gifts us with “Power Rangers”, a song I expect will be all over the place in a few weeks. Also Fireboy DML, one of the most loved new acts, decides to reaffirm himself with a spanking new party jam titled “What If I Say”. His debut hit, “Jealous” is still widely played.
There are many more exciting releases but by far, one of the most exciting releases has been that of Burna Boy aka the African Giant. He drops “Anybody”, a complete and total Afrobeats song, again proving himself to be the one dominating the genre. “Anybody wey no wan to soji…”.

All these songs can be found on music streaming and downloading platforms online.
