The Director-General of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Dr Chikwe Ihekweazu, has announced that Avian Influenza, also known as Bird flu, hit Kaduna, Kano and five other states in Nigeria.
Ihekweazu listed other states affected by the Bird flu to include Niger, Plateau, Gombe, Bauchi and Nasarawa state.
Meanwhile, the NCDC Boss revealed that the Agency had informed the World Health Organisation, WHO, in line with the International Health Regulations.
EveryEvery.ng gathered that the influenza virus strains that infect birds could also infect human and can be passed from person to person.
Bird flu symptoms, which begins within two to eight days, include cough, fever, sore throat, muscle aches, headache, and shortness of breath.
Causes Of Bird Flu
Health experts opined that humans could acquire the infection and develop the illness after coming into unprotected contact with birds carrying the virus.
The activities that may lead to bird flu in humans includes touching infected birds, touching or breathing in faeces or other secretions of infected birds.
Other causes are preparing infected poultry for cooking, slaughtering infected poultry, handling birds for sale among others.
In another development, the NCDC Team supports the Edo State government at the National Sports Festival to ensure public health safety measures.
The team, which paid an inspection visit to the Sam Ogbemudia stadium medical facility, would also help the government mitigate the spread of COVID19.
