Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has expressly condemned the attacks on peaceful protesters by armed men in the Alausa area of Lagos State.
He made this known via his Twitter handle where he clearly stated that he and his government are not and would never be in support of the attack of protesters and he assured that security agents will move to protect the peaceful protesters with immediate effect.
First hand information from protesters at the location was initially disseminated via Twitter that the protesters were attacked by scores of young men who were all heavily armed with knives, machetes and clubs. Video evidence captured showed that the armed men arrived in vehicles and stormed the protest ground, scattering protesters and even attacking some of them.
Governor Sanwo-Olu`s tweet read, “I strongly condemn the attack of peaceful protesters by armed and unscrupulous elements trying to cause chaos in Alausa today. My government will never tolerate the attack of protesters. Security agents will immediately protect peaceful protesters from miscreants.”
In a follow up tweet, he addressed reports about the use of a state-owned bus to convey the hoodlums to the point where they attacked protesters and he stated that he had asked the state team to investigate the reports. He also stated that he would address Lagos State residents live later in the day.
