Makurdi Airport (IATA: MDI, ICAO: DNMK) is a domestic airport serving Makurdi, the capital city of Benue State, Nigeria. The airport is located at Fili along Makurdi Gboko road, in the state capital. The Makurdi airport is one of the airports owned by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria. The airport commenced operation in 1983.
The airport has effectively been under the control of the Nigerian Air force since 2009. The Makurdi airport is for public use, and sometimes for military use. This airport is a relatively busy airport as it services the needs of travelers to and fro the ‘Food Basket of the Nation’ i.e. Benue State. Makurdi Airport is a major link for the Primarily Muslim Northern States; it serves Muslim Pilgrims and hosts airlines that operate internationally.
