Season 1, the maiden edition of the famous Big Brother Naija Hosted by Olisa and actress Michelle Dede. It ran from March 5- June 4 ,2006 that was held in South Africa. The season started off with 12 housemates and in biggie’s usual fashion, he added two other housemates Katung and Sandy.
Arguably the most popular housemate to date, Ebuka Obi-Uchendu was the seventh housemate to be evicted. Everyone including the housemates thought Ebuka would win but Katung who was an extra housemate alongside Sandy won the $100,000.
Katung went on to get a directorial degree at the Digital Film Academy in New York and is now into video and movie production while Ebuka is now the host for BBNaija and media Personality.
So to season 2.
Biggie introduced theming with the See Gobbe. This came 10 years after the first season and a child born then will probably Js1 in the second season. The theme was See Gobbe and we really saw gobbe from the drama the housemates gave us. The show ran from January 22 – April 9, 2017, and the 14 housemates stayed for 77days.
Actually there were 12 original housemates and with the addition of the 2 fake housemates, Jon Ogah and Ese Eriata they became 14.
The 25 million prize money was won by Efe the Warri boy! Efe’s win was kind of expected. The viewers could relate with his struggle, I could relate with his struggle and we also loved his originality. He even managed to create his personal tagline.
So Efe won for the season but Bisola who was the first runner up became more popular than the winner. Are you noticing the pattern with winners and runners-up? Remember the same thing happened in season 1 but let’s put a pin on that.
Season 3. This was called the Double Wahala season. The housemates gave us wahala. The season ran from January 28-April 5 2018 and the housemates stayed in the house for 84 days. The season started with 20 housemates and at the end the winner Miracle Ikechukwu went home with 45 million naira.
Despite the fact that Miracle won, CeeC was the most talked about housemate in the house and after the house. Her drama with Tobi earned her the nickname ‘Bitterleaf Cynthia’. Literally google ‘the most bitter woman’ in the world and CeeC is the first person.
There are actually a number of other housemates that became more popular than the winner actually. We have CeeC, Tobi, BamBam, and Teddy A.
Ohhh and this season gave us the very first BBNaija marriage with BamBam and Teddy A, we actually didn’t expect them to end up together but they did and they have a beautiful daughter, Zendaya.
Now to Season 4, themed Pepper Dem, this season was another record-breaking one as it produced the first-ever female winner, Mercy Eke Chinenyenwa aka Mercy Lambo.
The season ran from June 30 – October 6, 2019. It’s actually the longest season 99 days and it had the highest number of housemates-26.
Mercy went home with 30 million in cash and 30 million in gifts.
Biggie added 5 extra housemates. I’m talking about Venita, Elozonam, Enkay, Cindy &Joe.
There was an unexpectedly bend towards the end of the season as a tough competitor, Tacha got disqualified just as she was about to see the finish line.
Let’s talk about the winner/runner-up syndrome. Remember in season 1, Ebuka was more popular than the winner, Katung. Same with season 2 where the first runner up, Bisola ended up being more popular than Efe who has gone poof!
Season 3 wasn’t any different as CeeC was the most talked about housemate in the house and after the house. The viewers had expectations of seeing more of Miracle after the house but the pilot had other plans.
This season was different from the others as it was the only season we didn’t have a runner-up overshadow the winner.
Mercy said No! You all won’t take my shine!
The BBNaija season 5 is just two days away and we don’t know what to expect but it’s going to be hot. You should stay tuned to Everyeveryng for live updates daily. We don’t know if to expect another female winner, more housemates than the last, more housemates like CeeC and Tacha.
