The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has rejected the notice submitted by the All Progressives Congress, APC`s ahead of the Ondo State governorship primary election.
The electoral umpire said it could not accept the notice from APC because it was signed only by the Acting Chairman of the party.
According to a statement signed by INEC`s Secretary, Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the notice being signed by just the National Chairman of the APC negates the commission`s gudielines.
The statement explains that the primary election notice was supposed to be signed by the APC`s Acting National Chairman and Secretary. INEC, however, advised the APC to issue a fresh notice the will comply with its guidelines and requirements.
“Accordingly, your party is advised to issue an appropriate notice for the conduct of its Ondo State governorship primary in line with relevant provision of the regulations and guidelines for the conduct of the party primaries.”
There has been storms in the camp of the Ondo State APC for a while, especially between the state Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and his deputy, Agbola Ajayi which was denied until it was blown open recently.
There were several political dramas in the state which led to the state deputy governor dumping the ruling APC and pitching his tent with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
Report also has it the Ajayi would be contesting for the post of the state governor in the state governorship election coming up later this year.
