The Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano has received the donation of an isolation centre from Access bank PLC to the state government for its COVID-19 response.
Representing the governor was his deputy Dr Nkem Okeke in the centre, which is a 100-bed space is situated in the General hospital in Umueri. He said the centre is meant to offer support to their already existing main isolation centre should the need for more bed spaces arise.
The Anambra state deputy governor said, “We thank you for donating this, but it is our wish that we may never use this centre. But if we ever have to do, we pray that every patient who comes here will leave alive and not in a body bag.
The deputy governor also pointed out that the state has shared resources to help in the fight against the virus in the state.
“We have distributed palliatives to the people. We have distributed personal protective materials, and we have been doing well to counsel the people on the need to adhere to the safety guidelines issued by NCDC. We hope that this will be over soon.”
The efforts of the bank were commended by the state’s commissioner for health, Dr vincent Okpala who spoke in the event. According to the regional head of access bank in Anambra, Mr Uche Iboko, the provision of the centre is a contribution of the bank as part of the private sector coalition against COVID-19 (CACOVID).
