NCDC or Ganduje, who failed Kano State? This is the question a lot of Nigerians are currently asking. The announcement by Kano state governor , relaxing the lockdown order to allow residents of the state prepare for Ramadan has been met by varied reaction. Concerns are being raised if this decision is really the best considering the high number of Coronavirus cases in Kano state currently.
Kano state which currently have 73 confirmed cases of coronavirus has only one testing center. Speculations are that the state is not testing enough hence the possibility of the confirmed cases being under-reported. In the past week, numerous deaths were recorded across three local governments in Kano state. Although the state’s ministry of health said the deaths were not caused by coronavirus, this is not know for certain as there were no tests carried out on those deceased.

However, the residents of the state are accusing both NCDC and their governor for causing the deaths and the rapid increase in the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the state. They claim that the NCDC did not develop more test centers in the state. They also called out their governor for not distributing palliative materials in the face of the lockdown and for not creating isolations center, protective materials and more testing centers in the state. Although it is not yet clear whose responsibility it is to provide the above named resources, it should be noted that the Lagos State government provided them for the state in collaboration with some major private sector players.
